That Was the Year that Was

band stand in the snow

This time last year, I decided I was going to drink more…….water. And work more from home. The first one was easy, the second one….well, let’s just say I didn’t want it to happen the way it did.

You can’t sugar-coat unnecessary illness and death. My heart goes out to everyone affected. My short, very mild bout of Covid certainly focused me in many ways.

And yet, there’s been much good to take from 2020. Our local community rallied round brilliantly. So many people (re)-discovered the joy of nature around them. So many have re-acquainted themselves with their families & local areas/businesses. So many have had the liberation of more time. So many have shown creativity and innovation, against the odds.

I’ll be honest. Lockdown has been kind to me. Yet all the things I’ve noticed above can be carried on in healthier, happier times.

2020 for me has been a year of simple pleasures, for those of us healthy enough to enjoy them. Today, we had our first proper snow of the year. The joy I witnessed at people enjoying simple pleasures is something I’ll take from the year……and hopefully into 2021.

Happy New Year. May 2021 bring you and your loved ones all you wish.
