Magic and Loss

The magic started nine years ago, when the SSPCA contacted us about a whippet in their Balmore shelter. We loved the picture – he had something! When we met him, it felt like we’d always known each other. The moment we brought Eivor home, he gave a quiet sigh and slept. The nervous, frightened whippet had found his peaceful home.

I aspire to many things in my work and personal life. For nine years, I was witness to Eivor’s love, loyalty, devotion, kindness, curiosity and playfulness. I hope I can live up to his lofty standards.

Together, we explored countless Scottish beaches, forests, mountains and moorlands together. Like all our dogs, Eivor stopped us working all the time, making sure we had breaks for walks, cuddles and inspiring days out.

Those magical years ended yesterday with his passing. We will share tears, laughter and so many happy memories of times and places associated with him. For the sense of loss that comes with his passing, there is the magic of setting him free from his pain and suffering.

As we go through life, it is important to pay attention to and enjoy the magic around us. And to remember that there is some loss to make us appreciate and retain the magic.

Farewell Eivor, our dear, dear friend. Thank you for the magic.
