It’s Already Coming Home

Goodison Park before an Everton Game with the floodlights on

As I was enjoying England win earlier this week, I reflected on the fact that this was the first time in over 20 years that I’ve been able to watch a football tournament from start to finish at home. Every one has seen me check match times with trains, planes and traffic. It is about that sense of shared occasions as much as the game itself – football can be a great unifier.

For 18 years, I travelled all over the UK and Ireland delivering training. I love my face-to face work, meeting so many people in interesting places, but I missed my loved ones and the relentless travelling was tiring. In 2014, I added interactive virtual training to my workload, which means I can also do exciting work from home.

During the past 17 months, I have been working completely virtually. I have seen so much resilience, innovation and creativity from the people I’ve worked with, as they master working online.

Sometimes I miss the buzz of working in a room with people and the enjoyable sides of travelling. Maybe this will return, albeit to a lesser degree than before.

Right now, I’m cherishing my time working from home, spending great times with my loved ones and working with people around the world from our dining room table. And having more time for Euro 2020!

It’s already come home.
