How Did You End Up There?

I saw this driftwood tree, washed up on the beach and wondered, ‘How did you end up there?’

That is a question I am often asked these days. At my point in life, the answer is, ‘it’s a long story.’

Everyone has a story. Even for those of us who are more modest, there are rich layers of experience, emotions and plenty of life lessons that we can include. Asking ourselves a few questions gives us some structure and key events. Add some vivid sensory language – and the listener is hooked!

If you find yourself thinking your life seems a bit dull, write down your key events for some structure. Relive those moments and the feelings they gave, or give you now. Write them down, using some sensory, punchy language.

That’s your story, ready to tell. Far more interesting than you may have initially thought.

You can check out a brief version of my story here.

Better still, we could have a chat about it – as long as you tell your story first!
